What has been your biggest lesson?
My biggest lesson was definitely learning about how to finish a painting even if it doesn't turn out the way I want. I learned that from the Riley painting and the portrait because I wasn't really satisfied with either but in the end I was just happy to have finished them. I think I really tested my patience with those two and I'm glad I did because I think it showed myself I do have perseverance.

What skills have grown the most during the year?
I think my ability to try new paints and matierals that I haven't tried before and experimenting with topics has been a skill I've improved on. At the beginning of the year I was convinced I loved water color but when I was introduced to new things like acrylic or encaustics I fell in love. I also experimented with new painting topics and have started to explore more of my identity rather than painting for others.

What do you think are your biggest strengths as an artist?
I think my biggest strength as an artist is choosing really unique colors to work with. I've started to experiment more with bold colors and using them to portray a feeling or personality trait. Another strength I've found within myself is that when I started exploring my own identity as a topic I started a thrive and that really helped me create more ideas for paintings.

Which project did you like the least?
I did not like the Riley painting at all. I had a really really hard time connecting to the overall idea. I couldn't find a fine line between child like but still have my painting taken seriously. I really had trouble creating an idea and then when I did I didn't feel like I dedicated myself to it. I felt like I just did it to get the grade. I liked the concept but I just couldn't relate or find motivation with this project.

Which project did you enjoy the most?
I absolutely loved my final project. I loved everything about it. I finally took the time to paint about myself and painted a somewhat portrait of myself and related it to Frida Kahlo and I really look up to her so it was really fun. This painting was really easy going and I could tell I enjoyed it through my craftsmanship. I have my own perspective and view on myself so it was easy to really portray my personality.

Suggestions?
I suggest either dropping the Riley painting because I felt like it was really rushed or allowing the students to find a charity they genuinely care about and paint something that relates to the topic or message of that charity. I think it allows the students to become more involved and interested.

Describe your strongest piece
My strongest piece was obviously my final. I think it showed good use of identity, followed the topic, had compositional skills with the way the head was in the center and the layout of leaves, and I genuinely liked the shading and highlight I had on my skin. I think it was nice to go back and redo another portrait of myself because it allowed me to really show how I see myself. I used symbolism to depict my bright and natural look and down to earth personality. The leaves represent nature and the way I painted myself with bare face and unibrow illustrates how I'm not into dressing up and keeping it natural. The bright orange background and yellow flowers are used to show how I have a bright personality. The concept was identity and I used Frida Kahlo as my inspiration. I did a good job relating to some of her paintings and painting my personality and facial structure. This is my strongest because I felt most connected and intrigued by this. I also used composition and bright colors that portrayed a feeling. I just think this shows off my skills and I really liked it.

Your future in art
I want to continue to work on portraits and symbolisms in my painting whether that be a topic all on its own or in the background of others. I also want to strengthen my landscape paintings because I am a huge traveler and want to paint the world the way I see it.
Im definitely keeping are in my life. I am taking AP drawing next year and I'm really excited to get back to the grind and see how my art continues to develop.
